Crooked Teeth

To celebrate the trip to New York City tomorrow, I took a few lines from Death Cab's "Crooked Teeth" and came up with this. The lines are:

'cause at night, the sun in the trees
made the skyline look like crooked teeth
in the mouth of a man who was devouring us both.

P.S. The Guggenheim is putting on an exhibit of over 200 of Frank Lloyd Wright's original sketches, designs, and models. If flash (or any, rather) photography is allowed, I'll definetely be bringing home pictures. That is, if I don't get so excited that they throw me out.

Red Flowers

I felt a little anxious to draw today, so I took imagination out of the equation and just drew flowers. Not all that inventive, but I don't think it's that bad.

Boo! Cell phone monster.

Monster-ola?
Kill-ocera?
Deathberry?

I could do this all day.
This is dedicated to everyone who's cell has ever grown tentacles and bit off a finger.

The Escape

What's new:

  • (what I think is) much better set design.
  • a plot with a little more meaning.
  • a catchy British tune.

I'm sorry to say that this may be my last short for a while. What I'll be posting on here from now on will be more on the non-animated side.

Now sit back, relax, and (hopefully) enjoy.

The Escape takes place in a city, or world, rather, whose political, economic, and environmental problems share a few similarities with those of our own world (haha maybe I'm trying to make a statement). Set to "Australia" by The Shins, in this short, a young cubicle worker (nameless) figures out that getting away from this polluted, corrupted world is easier than it looks. For him, something as simple as love can provide the escape.

Watch Your Mouth/ Old Sketches

Frighteningly enough, this guys face (right) was pictured in my head for a day before I figured I might as well put it on paper. Whimsical, pointless, and much more cartoony than what'd I'd normally do, this is called Watch Your Mouth.

Also, I just recently took a gander into the first few pages of my sketchbook, so as a bonus, I'll post a few old sketches as well.

Peace

I'm pretty proud of this one, mainly because it's the first decent work that I've done since I moved up here (emphasis on decent). Being a whole lot more colorful and a bit psychadelic, I've called it Peace.

Graduation

Never before have I been so happy to hear Pomp and Circumstance. Good speeches, good pictures, and good friends. Quite a lovely night, if I do say so myself.

I did another doodle (this time in TECHNICOLOR) to mark this momentous occasion, and celebrate that shiny new diploma sitting on my table.

The Escape

On and off for the past few weeks, I've been writing the storyboard for a new animated short, The Escape. Compared to my first three, this one's plot has a little bit more meaning.

I have lagged a little recently, and the first few preparatory steps took a little longer than I planned. However, now that high school's over (PRAISE THE LAWD), my free time during the day has increased exponentially, and the animation process is in full swing.

This is a quick shot from the intro. A woman talking on her cell waits in traffic in front of the main character (blurred, in the back).

As all of my belongings (myself and my computer included) will soon be off to Pennsylvania, I can't give a definite completion date. I am really looking forward to finishing this, though, so hopefully it will be soon.

The Hazards of Love

Haven't done one of these since March. Lame.

I got the idea for this from The Decemberist's album, The Hazards of Love. The album is essentially about a woman named Margaret falling in love with a shape-shifting forest dweller. All in all, pretty weird and just a little gay. The music, however, is enjoyable.

The twisted branches take their lyrics from the second track, The Hazards of Love I (The Prettiest Whistles Won't Wrestle the Thistles". The lines read:

"And there she came upon
a white and wounded fawn
singing ...ooohhh
the hazards of love."
